Connecting Solar Charge Controllers To Pv System

Can more than one charge controllers be connected to a single PV array to charge more than one battery bank or to the same battery bank to maximize charging? if not why?

yes, but a single controller and linking batteries I would think would work better. Assume array is nominally working at 50-75% pof peak values, ie your 4 kw system will be doing 2-3Kw most of the time.

Yeah but won't the system benefit from achieving faster charge in a shorter space of time, i.e if you have a two 12/24Vdc 40A Mppt controller feed by the same PV array for a 12/24Vdc bank either connected in P/S as to just one controller?

There's only so much power from the system to charge the batteries, better off with a bigger charge controller than multiple units. If you split the power feed, over 2 chrage conrollers, you are just halving the availabe power.
