Damaged wire

Hi,

One small section of wire on the floor is damaged. Can that be fixed by wrapping with electrical tape or it has to be a new wire replacement?

I am trying to share the photo of the wire but i am not sure how to upload to this forum

"electrical tape" despite it's name is not not suitable to repair a damaged cable.

Post your picture on an image hosting website and post a link to it. you need to have made 10 posts before you can upload pictures direct to the forum.

wrapping tape around it is not a suitable repair. whats the cable for and how bad is he damage? heatshrink could be an option

It's a long white wire  fitted on  one side of the living room.It goes below the radiators which can be pushed to make the wire go side of the wooden floor..I don't know what's the purpose of the wire .

May be the wire travels to the 1st floor where heating thermostat is fitted.But not sure as the wire is hidden and can't see outside the wall.

Thank you.The other side there is a telephone connection an no phone connected.Shall I just leave it ? Or to wrap with tape? Thinking whether wire shocks when touch ?

No, there is no hazard from it. Telephones are only low voltage. The risk is that you may have problems with your phone if the inner cores are exposed to bare metal level and shorted together.

To be honest if it's a telephone extension and you are not using the extension I would rip it out.  These days with cordless phones and mobile phones being used more than the landline, there really is not the need for a socket in every room.
