Is the solenoid switch necessary?
I can get one without for £15, with is £44.

It's a safety, no volt release switch. If the power goes off say because of a power cut, the machine stops. When it comes back on the saw will start up again with a "normal" switch.

Thank you for the wiring diagram, I did take some photos, but helpful anyway.

I have used this machine on a DIY basis for 20+ years and never had a power cut during use. So not much of a safety risk.

What about thermal overload?

The WT22-555 switch I seen is rated at 10Amps perhaps that deals with the ‘tripping’ under heavy load!

What about thermal overload?

If it's in the original switch and the replacement doesn't have it then there won't be any thermal over load! 😂

Brilliant saws, had mine over 30 years. Gone through a couple of switches in that time. Only just put the cap back tbh that I borrowed for my gennie.

£44 spread over 20 years, well worth it imo.

Just to complete...

I bought a KJD20-2 NVR safety switch from ebay (china) for £10.39 , you can get them for less.

It fitted straight into the recess, the Dewalt cover had to be shaved slightly to be allow the screws to go fully home.

Only slight issue was lack of wiring diagram, switch said IN OUT . Found a similar switch on line showing:

14 live feed motor Out

24 neutral feed motor Out

13 live supply In

23 neutral supply In

had to crimp on 2 female spades

Result and not ripped off for £44

Hopes this helps a fellow diyer
