I never see car stickers round here,

I simply have a poppy in the window air vent,

and a poppy on since beginning of week,

I dont care what anyone says,

the main builder I sub for has two of the directors ex-forces and they even have a poppy box on reception,

one of my neighbours is trying to sell her house and a few weeks back asked me to take my flag down, as it may put off certain prospective buyers,

I politely informed her,

as with every other year, its goes up on July 1st, and it will come down after Rememberance day.

...............best part of it is that Lady Astor was a yank.

Her family built its wealth with some assistance from the

Slave trade that Britain banned and America fought to

continue.

The song Lili Marlene was sung by both sides.  Shame it

was not taken to the nth degree to bring both sides together.

I was quite suprised today, gone out to 1st fix an extension for my usual builders ,  four of us on site ,   at 11 am today  the interminable radio went off and a 2 minute silence was observed.

Next year it will be 100 years since the guns on the western front fell silent & the RBL are wanting to get the Flanders poppy every where, so when you see the seeds on sale buy a pack & sprinkle liberally on a road side verge near you.

my garden should have some next year,

I have a bucket of poppies in my back yard that my mum gave me earlier on this year, and hopefully the seeds will have spread,

her friend brought them back from Flanders at the beginning of July when she was over at the memorials.

I think this is gaining ground with time.

When I worked in London and this time came around in 2012

there was an announcement over the PA in the building.  All

work came to a stop for 2 minutes and anyone who objected

or complained was told what to do;  ie. leave the building and

remain out there until 11.05.

The first 2 minute silence was ordained by the then monarch,

King Edward VII.  All transport and all activity all over the nation

came to a stop.  Eye witness accounts spoke of a curious and

highly charged atmosphere that pervaded all the streets and

buildings.

"Never had the nation moved as one body and this moment will

not be forgotten"  wrote one observer.
