Hello again,

I'm thinking of having a downlight in the ceiling above my kitchen sink. What sort of fitting do I need - just a normal GU10 50w? (Like this one: here ) Does it need stuff like a fire hood or some sort of mounting box? The ceiling is directly below the loft, which has modern pink insulation below chipboard flooring.

Thanks

Thanks Godfather,

So if I get a fire-rated downlighter, can it be pushed straight up into the insulation, or do I need to build a box to separate it from the insulation before my sparky comes to fit it?

No!

Cut the insulation away form the fixing hole, so that the vent holes are clear of insulation, and make sure it is 50mm away from any joist/woodwork.

(Under no circumstances allow the downlight to be covered)
