I know SpecLoc had a similar thread a while back (may have been `08)

(ah - http://www.talk.electricianforum.co.uk/question-answer-board/328-dust-masks-eye-protection.html )

But this is a little different.

I`ve just used up my free trial masks from 3M, coring 2 X 107mm holes for fans through engineering bricks (aching a bit, now!)

Seemed quality bits of kit - BUT when I took `em off, I was still covered in dust around my nose & mouth (as well as everywhere else), and could taste the brick dust.

So I need something else - considering half-mask or maybe full- face.

What do you use, and do you find it any good?

Thanks guys.

KME,

I use FFP3 disposable valved respirators.

However, no matter what kind of RPE you utilise to comply with legislation and to be safe, you must undertake a face seal fit test prior to first use of any particular model.

As long as you are only talking nuisance dust or low toxicity, i.e. NOT ASBESTOS.

As you say brick dust, or wood dust, fibreglass dust etc. the you may want to consider one of these:

http://www.trend-uk.com/en/UK/product/AIR_PRO/4/178/airshield_pro_respirator_230v_uk_.html

A common but very often overlooked problem is compatibility of PPE, e.g. RPE & eye protection interfering, eye protection & hearing protection interfering etc.

I am about to get one of these for internal LEV filter examinations & cleaning down of wood machinery as i have to wear glasses / eye protection and hearing protection when doing this work, I have always had problems with the disposable masks, and the half face respirators give me issues with my glasses as they are varifocals following my cateract operations!

On the van I have a large pack of the cheapo paper face masks which I double up . Mostly used for in lofts for that accursed lagging.

Also have a half face mask with the two screw on filters. I use this mainly because paper masks steam up my glasses , which I need for close up, connecting , reading, etc.

I have one of the old Airshield face masks that I wear for woodturning routing etc. It really is excellent and keeps you nice and cool on a hot day!

Not tried the new one but claims much improved filtration, ability to attach ear muffs etc.

I am very impressed with it having messed about with many different masks.

If you buy one don't get it from Trend. The best price I found when I got mine was here
