E S lamp holder polarity test

does any one have a diagram on how to conduct a polarity test on a E S lamp holder?

I usually stick a neon screwdriver up it . I will now be shot down for even suggesting it but it does the job.

using R1R2 method, check between earth terminal in fitting and centre pin in ES holder

The polarity check is done at the rose.

Whats wrong with sticking a neon on the centre pin , if it lights up its the live. Why does everything have to be so complicated these days.

because your supposed to check polarity dead before energising!

and the only thing neon screwdrivers are useful for is a screwdriver (and many dont even manage that)

Also, you are only required to check polarity on the style of ES lampholders with a metalic screwthread that is used as the neutral connection from the lamp.
