hello chaps,

it's, been asked befor no doubt, but will ask again, is there a way of using my megger to find if earth leakage is occuring?

i have seen people posting about meggering a kettle or immer, is this what they are on about?

thanks

A megger or any insulation tester does what it says on the tin and tests insulation. If you test between L and E or N - E then you are testing the integrity of the insulation of the kettle or whatever to earth. If there is any breakdown in insulation then you will get a low reading.

IR L&N to E. if there is a fault, you will get a low reading. a really bad fault and you can sometimes get a reading in ohms on continuity test. then use ohms law and you can work out how much is being leaked
