Hi,

I just moved to a new flat and I noticed it's electric panel has 3 ethernet ports.

I don't know anything electricity related, but I've never seen those in electric panels so I was wondering what those are for.

BTW, I doubt my landlord knows anything about them.

Here's a picture of it:

Thanks

Part of an enclosure with some home automation control type gear in it maybe.......

Ports for connecting PC to program on/off times etc... ?????

just guessing

:popcorn

Well, to me, it looks like a LUNATIC idea... How long before one of them muppets [I think they all are now] that cannot even screw a nut on a bolt, never mind do anything electrical, decides to poke around in there no doubt looking for pokemen or what ever they are, and, BLAM...... On second thoughts, a great invention, might thin out some idiots, natural selection and all that..

john..

Without a photo of the whole unit, we don't actually know if there is anything other than presumably Cat5 in this enclosure.

I think we are presuming as it looks like it has MCB knockouts that it is a CU, it could well just be used as a hub.

I don't know if it's a good idea to remove the cover. There's no switch to cut off the electricity coming into the panel itself, only individual switches for stuff around the flat. I'd really like to know what that is though. If it's home automation related I'd definitely find a way to put a raspberry pi to control appliances remotely.

What do the labels say please?

Also what does it say on the device on the far rhs please?

It looks like you have 3 full 2 pole RCBO's in there.

L to R.

A 3ph MCB with an auxiliary neutral block?

What is this board feeding please?

Where are you located, because that does not look like a Std. UK type solution, more Eire or mainland Europe?

The labels just indicate the different divisions of the house.

This is what it says on the top right:

Here's a better picture of the  switches:

I live in Switzerland.

But what are the ethernet ports then?

Okay, makes more sense now!

Had a mate in Geneva, I understand the electrics are very good there but I have no idea how they do things.

I also have no idea what the Ethernet ports are for sorry!

You could CAREFULLY open it up in the daytime with all the switches off and have a peek?

The mcb looks like it has its own lock off kit ;) and the thing on the far right I thought looked like a timer is a latching relay.

Still no idea about the ethernet ports yet.

There is what looks like a big blanked out white square in the first picture, what is there?

The LH 2 pole breaker is for rooms 1 & 2 then, the middle one for the kitchen, bathroom, & entrance hall, the 3ph is for the cooker (range cooker?.

Not sure what the 16A contactor is for yet.

Until we see the inside I don't think we will be able to tell what the ports are for.

Where is your electric meter?

Could they be for EoP rather than PoE?

Does Switzerland have a broadband connection to homes over power lines?
