Trades don't commonly use these. As their accuracy is based on too many unknowns. Any properly branded one will suffice as a gift, try Bosch, but I don't guatentee the recipients success!

Are you aware what are they using ?

Noted
It's not one thing, electricians assess using their knowledge of buildings, regulations, history, sight, and yes sound, and on occasion, but rarely, a device that attempts to notify the user of electromagnetic variation in the form of a cable finder.

Maybe a contactless voltage detector would be a better gift, try a fluke LVD2, it's not for finding buried cables but it's relatively accurate at telling you if a cable is live, but again, this is not a guatentee of safety or accuracy, you'll need to be qualified and time served to improve that.
