Hey I'm an electrician by trade and decided to learn how to develop phone apps recently. I created an emt bending app for the android. My intentions for it is to help knowledge new apprentices with bending. I am in the prototype phase and would like feed back from people on what they think about the app. I'm going to keep this app free since I'm a believer in free education. Please see attached link..

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=appinventor.ai_easterbrook_jon.ConduitBending

Features of the app are:

-bender characteristics

-different types of bends

-multiplier calculator page

-tool list

-material list

And my super prototype feature right now is called "draw your run". Eventually I want to be able to drag and drop animated emt into the picture.. I think this feature could help people who aren't that great with picturing their emt run.

So if anywho has negative or positive feed back give me a hollar. Everything helps..

Thanks for your time

Great idea.

BUT Part of me says it will just encourage youngsters to spend MORE time on their phone on site. A sneaky look at FB etc. It's almost dumbing down what can be an art form. And the name doesn't do it for me.

But then I'm an old git! :) I'll try the app later if I can work this new fangled cellular telephone thing...

Firstly, would I be right in assuming you are American?

I really like the idea of the Ideal benders, and have often thought of getting one, but then I remember that here in the UK we also thread our metal conduits and so the Hilmor type benders are better suited (although more cumbersome) as they have a  pipe vice on them.

Without even installing the app I would suggest you sort out the numbers on the first image on google play. The red text on black background is practically impoossible to read. I will be more than willing to look at the app if you:

A) stop posting multiple posts on the forum about this same thing (3 at present)
B) explain what the permissions are required for?

Thanks

Hey Onoff,

I agree with what you're saying, but I feel like apprentices spend alot of time using their phones to find information on pipe bending.(when they are bending of course). I found that most foremen just tell apprentices kinda how to bend and then yell at them for not knowing how to bend emt. My goal is to consolidate every and any possible information about emt bending on my app. Itll save time because people wont have to swift through google to find information on pipe bending.

I learnt at college and still have a reference book with maybe 3 or 4 pages on "how to bend". In the UK we know have "multi skilled" apprentices being churned out who are imo neither electrician nor mechanic.

I love to bend tube but feel it should be instinctive. I'm even using it in my house as I've a vermin paranoia  (& vermin :) ). I used it as mechanical protection for some water pipes even:

I like getting in tight behind...

And I did it in one! All covered up now. It's only got 3 singles in that freaky bit.

I did a 180deg bend at work that still draws comment. Up out of a dis. board and down to socket. More of a could I than should I.

:)

Was it measured, cut, threaded and bent once?

or in my style of

bend

cut

thread

fit.

I have to say it....if you're  going to bend some conduit then bend it ..... theres too much looking at phones all day long .   Oh and what on Earth is EMT  ?

Heres a typical example ...guy is too busy in his own world  Googling  What do whales look like ....as the real world passes him by .
