Sorry folks, but that is a fact,

on the train this evening on the way backj from Southport and a few lads were singing 'party' songs, fair enough, no one joined in,

then one of them decided to stand up and sing the 'QUEEN' , the rest of them stood up and joined in, as did I,

not one other person in the carriage stood up!!!!

WTF, its the NATIONAL ANTHEM of this country,

sorry, but if that had happened in norn iron today the train woulda been stopped and anyone that hadnt stood up would have been very politely told to get off.!

does no one in this country have any respect anymore for the people that laid down their lives for the freedoms we enjoy???

headbang

I thought they hated us in norn iron ,Steps ?

You reminded me of a character from years back . Friday nights, chucking out time at the city centre pubs , on the 33 bus from City to Aston, Perry Barr, Kingstanding etc. Irish guy used to get the whole bus singing , he was a bit scary and made everyone join in , even with the "rebel songs" . It seemed really funny if you were not on the bus but walking home , bus would appraoch with all this raucus singing blasting out , teenagers , middle class couples, elderly . all being conducted by the mad Irishman as it passed by.

TBH I dont think many people openly display patriotism these days because its been kicked out of us by the PC brigade. Its not ok to be English anymore.

Im a brit born and bred, but I tell you what, I hate what this place has become. So no, Im not proud to be British any more ( I was when I was younger). And I cant see it changing back to a country to be proud of again anytime soon.

Its very rare I would openly state my thoughts on this, it makes life so much easier these days to keep your cards close to your chest, which might explain the lack of support from your train passengers

The English anthem yes Revo, when I worked in Wales , a while ago now, they'd be singing Land of My Fathers at the drop of a hat ,and why not .

A warning when it was coming would have been nice though.!!

We used to patronise The Labour Club in Treorchy or was it Treherbert? Anyway at the end of the night and a few Guinness which had left me a bit bemused , everyone suddenly stands up and bursts into into song .!!! Frightened me to death!! Two Welsh guys who realised my puzzlement hoisted me to my feet and with a grin , said "Come on Brum, sing up now, theres tidy, is'nt it look you " :innocent :innocent;) ;)

I remember my Dad taking me to the forces cinema in Germany in the late '70s and before watching the film we all had to stand up for the national anthem. in fact, Since the age of 13 when I took Welsh nationality I haven't given a carp about English patriotism - it is the smallest of their damn problems lol!
