My names John,

in July i finished 3 years of evening classes to get my my 2330 lvl3 and went on to do the 17th edition and 2392 test and inspection. I'm not currently working as an electrician but its my goal, i'm a stockman on a farm looking after a herd of long horn cattle. Because i'm a bit older and a paper electrician (lack of practical experience) i've found it hard to get taken on by a firm so i've tried to take things into my own hands. i work for free with local electricians whenever i can and find jobs for close friends who are electricians and then we do the job together.

I joined up to the forum so i can keep my head in electrics and learn more, its scary how when you leave college the knowledge can filter away if your not using it.

Welcome to the forum John what area are you in may help with your search but its not a good time to get into electrics due to current climate.

Welcome aboard.

Many of the established, and time-served guys on here have been (very) short of work recently - everyone has tightened their belts, and developed "long pocket syndrome"...

When coupled with "short arm syndrome" = lack of money on many fronts.

Good luck.

KME

Cheers everyone

I'm based near stevenage, in hertfordshire (40mins north of london)

John;

Only a suggestion but could you build up an NVQ type portfolio that you could show to a prospective employer?

Evidence of work is how it is done these days and a good portfolio is always worth having.

Best of luck; you might consider going the full monty and doing the 2391 qual. It is hard work but also worth while.

Yes, I am aware of this one; not sure if it is a good thing or not so good. A lot of assessors I know are strict about photographic evidence. They do not want any arguments from EV's.
