Yesterday morning I was out and about in the vanb on the way to a job. There was a newish Nissan Note in front of me and there was rain on the ground. I didnt think I was following too close but all of a sudden he decided to do an emergency stop. I was in an 02 vauxhall which didnt have ABS brakes because everything locked up and I slid right into the back of him with some force.

I got out of the van to make sure everone in the car was OK and then I saw the reason for his emergency stop. A pheasant nonchalantly walked across the road as if nothing had happened.

Once I established everone was OK I checked for damage. Amazingly there wasnt a mark on the Nissan. The vauxhall bonnet was slightly creased and a bit of trim needed glueing back on. Bonnet straightened out by hand no problem.

I wish I could have got my hands on the Pheasant i would have throttled it and had it for tea!

GAME, set & match rather than Fowl play I reckon.

you were obviously too close if you couldnt stop in time

No I couldn't possibly have been too close. He stopped too quickly without warning.
If you could not stop in time you were driving too close thats the law !!

Vans loaded have a longer stopping distance than a car :)

You wer close enough if ure bonnet was touching there back end lol

That couldn't have been a very "Pheasant" experience for either of you.

 :|

Woman who rammed me up the rear a couple of years back said something very similar. Thing is, she'd punted me out into a r'bout almost into the path of a HGV!! Didnt understand that she could possibly have done anything wrong.

Changed her tune after Dibble visited.

Thing to remember nowadays is that many new cars have something called Emergency Brake Assist. In response to panic application of the brake pedal the car basically throws out the anchor itself - it automatically goes into full emergency stop. If you're too close, there's no way you can react as fast as that cars computer and you'll slam into the back of it sure as eggs is eggs.

err yes I think I know that! I think I'll stay well back in future!

Remember the thread posted recently about the guy who had a small rear end collision

with a lady. No damage done. No need for formal insurance information.

A few weeks later he got a letter from a lawyer for an injuries claim against him

BEWARE !!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Reverend but , yes you must have been too close, I'm guilty of it myself at times.

If you leave a decent gap between you around here someone will usually overtake and fill it .

I noticed last week when we had rain after a long period of dry days , how slippy the roads became. Van was sliding about all over the place when braking. When pulling away the front wheels were just spinning, made me check the tyres which are almost new.

In my car you are always too close, bloody 26year old brakes.

The van anchors on nicely.
