France - French Electrical qualifications

Myself and mrs sprocketflup have been looking for quite some time now at moving over to France to live.

Not being millionaires we of course need to sort out work/income for ourselves when we get over, so to that end, does anyone know anything about how English electrical qualifications translate over to the French side?

Or any info on how I can find out?

Slightly obvious but to succeed in France best you become fluent in lingua Franca as they don't take kindly to those who can't

Yeah know what you mean Robojin, we have no problem at all with doing our best to integrate into thier ways of life, as it p*sses us off mightily when people come over here and dont.

What Im trying to find out is what the various qualifications translate to. Ive done a bit of research on how they do thier wiring, TBH thier system is a little easier than ours as far as I can tell, as in no ring finals, but by 'eck (or 'Ooh la la' ) they do split thier circuits up a lot. No more than 5 sockets per radial, seperate circuits for most appliances etc.

Also Steptoe would love it as the DNO's dont supply an earth anywhere, so its TT everywhere pretty much.

All I can add is that my M8 did a job over there for a customer who moved to Carrcassonne ( Spelling !!!) They wanted a shower installing but it seemed that the system is you pay accordingly for a 5 amp supply or a 20 A supply into a house . They only had a 5A supply if I remember right so M8 had to go back again.

No problem was raised about him working there as far as I know.

Sounds like they work to CENELEC.. Same as my in laws in ROI.

My sister inlaws husband is a sparks over there and was questioning me about different regs,, they don't have rings and max 5 sockets per radial.. They don't seem to use T&E for lighting much either.

ROI used to be really funny,

although its been a while since I worked there now,

but even then lots of radial ccts, and singles used for lights, the North was similar in designs too,

but then ROI went onto harmonised colours and it changed a bit,

done some machinery there about 12/13 year ago and it was all Br Bl Gr and an English firm came over to commision and connected all the Blues up as Lines, and Blacks as Neutrals......

Thtas right, every cable must be double insulated or enclosed in conduit, so t+e isnt much good because of the bare cpc so singles it is then.

lots of flexi used for drops down walls and stuff though, do they still use a little connection box in every room for lighting points so that there is only 1 set of wires at each light? some places prefer spider systems IIRC, and local laws have some jurisdiction over what you can and cant do, so long as it still complies you have to abide by local rules first and foremost.
