fused isolator v switchfuse

When DNO's install isolators, why don't they install fused isolators? Is it a cost issue? If they did, we wouldn't have to worry about meter tail lengths... ?:|

I assume a fused isolator costs more money! Also would it require more maintanance and testing than a straight forward isolator?

Just my (amature) thoughts

 
they dont need a fuse because the main cut out protects short tails, but you still need protection for the extended tails, i suppose cost is also a factor. dave
