Hi,

New to the forum so apologies if this covered elsewhere.

I am currently building my own Off Grid Solar system but the size/location of fuses is confusing me.

My system comprises of:
5x 36W, 9A solar panels (in parallel)
70A PWM Charge Controller
5 x 12v 170ah Batteries (in parallel)
4000W PSW Inverter

Now I am planning on adding the following fuses:
20A inline fuses from each Solar Panel positive lead
80A DC breaker from Solar Panels positive lead to 70A Charge Controller
80A DC breaker from Charge Controller positive lead to batteries
120A DC breaker from Batteries positive lead to Inverter

Does that sound OK? My main worry is the Battery to Inverter 120A breaker not being enough.

What sort of power are you expecting to draw with the inverter?
Even if you want half that rating it would be about 170 amps at 12 volts. I would be more inclined to use a car style fusible link, about 150 amp to protect the batteries and their wiring.
I'm not sure about the need to fuse the solar panel side of it, so I'll let someone else who knows more about them comment.
