hi im new to this as well as to solar, ive just started with a company that has recently been mcs accredited , theyve put me in charge of quoting for work , the first job ive got is a country house with a roof at 15 degrees over a swimming pool the area is 15 meters x18 meters ( 162 panels ) the output will be 40kwatt plus what is the proceedure im in at the deep end i only finished my level three a year ago

Well it won't be G59 if it's in the UK, so where is it?

As above. No disrespect, but are you really the right person to prepare a quote if you don't understand how it all works and what the requirements are? This is probably why we hear of so many systems that are installed incorrectly.

Surely the place to ask this question is with your employeer... not an internet forum! :|

There is a thread on the forum about a Solar PV mess up with a supposed competent persons not installing a system correclty...

How, the OP asked, can this happen it is madness or words to that effect....

Here we see an illustration of how and why these botch ups happen.... :C

ANY person doing work for an employer outside of their abilities should go back to their employer for additional training OR to work along side someone who is compentent...

Maybe not the answer you want to hear..

BUT sorry... it is factually correct!

Go back to you boss and tell the truth..

otherwise every job you will be asking some invisible stranger on the internet how to do something you should already know.

I wonder what the customer would think if they knew the company contracted to supply their solar PV system had to ask the basics on the internet!?

:_|

p.s.

{I guess someone else will moan that this sort of answer is not what the forum is about..

They probably think this is a professional way for a solar company to operate!}

I thought G83 was the UK spec? But that just illustrates the point. I am not qualified to specify a system because I don't know all the regulations, as it seems the OP doesn't either.
G83 upto 16A

G59 above 16A

I believe this is per phase but cant remember without checking.

If you dont understand the procedure for G59 you robably shouldnt be doing it sorry but thats how it is.

Seriously as a company with the prospect of what appears to be possibly a very good earner, would you allow someone with little experience to tender for this job - Must be a bait !!!!!!

Steve, you wouldnt believe the amount of numpty installs Ive been to recently,

thankyou ,my boss is on about a megger pcitis ?, anybody used any of this type of equipment ?

jumping striaght into 40kWp system is a bit of a challenge to say the least. Like any install, try to work out a time per point, then add time for lack of familiarity, and a few days for tweaking around the edges such as adding cable tray runs which you will probably need for all the strings. Try to pick a good mounting system or go for an all-in package supplier like Solarworld who will spec system form drawings for you and supply all necessary kit. Also warn your boss that breaking even as a first job will being doing well :pray .

well for starters you will not get 162 panels on that roof.

say 250w panels 1640x992? theyll be above the ridge, in the gutter and levelled with edge, going to be a problem scaffing.
