hello chaps,

not a spark question but im sure someone will know.

is there any reg on kitchen units above a gas hob? i would assume directly above is not a good place but can it go directly to the side?

thanks

paul

Yes, the splash back should be clear of flammable material (that includes sockets etc) for 740mm above hob and 50mm each side.

If it's a freestanding cooker there should be 5mm min each side of the unit.

Cooker hoods need to be 700mm above a gas hob personally I would not think its a good idea to have a cabinet above a hob.

Hi Paul hows that baby, getting any sleep?

Only restriction on Gas hob I have come across is min 750mm above for Cooker hood. Don't think any restriction to sides.

Well you better inform cooker hood manufacturers of that one then.

When I fitted my cooker hood above my cooker, I first fitted it at the height the cooker hood manufacturer recommended and found it was way too low (if you leaned over the cooker to stir something on the back ring you would hit your head on the hood at the height they recommended)

So I raised it to much much higher than the manufacturer recommended, in fact I raised it as high as it could possibly go using only the shorter of the two sections of chimney (you are supposed to use both, one inside the other to expand to the desired length)

Even after raising it as high as it could possibly go, and way higher than recommended by the manufacturer, it's now only 780mm above the hob.

Always consult manufactures details.

where there aint none as follows

50mm to the sides horizontal, from there vertical to 460mm at this height we can then go back in horizontally 50mm to the width of hob, from here we climb to a total of 760mm above the hob(or 300 on top of the 460 we've already climbed).

Regards chris

Oh forgot to say

at 460mm vertical we can go back in 50mm to width of hob, this is to allow extractors to be butted up-to the surrounding units

is it 50 or 5m,

on electric rangmaster i am sure its 25 or 75 depending on weather the surface is combustable

thanks chaps, its only a question for my dad, he fitting out a kitchen and the gas guy refused to fit the hob, he said it was 600mm each side, i thought this was too much.

only up 3 times a night :_| still i have the week off

What i quoted above is from BS 6172 current, installation of domestic gas cooking appliances.

Most manufacturers will stick to these measurements

regards chris
