Evening,

Just doing some research for an assignment, (maybe this should be in student section) Anyhoo...

Found a guy saying his wind turbine is not grid tied, this is due to the time the inverter takes to synchronise with the mains. Apparently this can be up to three minutes, he's implies he'd lose a lot of generation time because of this when the turbine stops and starts.

Surely this is not the norm? Badly specked/placed turbine... Its from a fairly old site (that i've now lost)

Thanks

sounds like non-sense to me. In event of grid fail, G83 inverter restart time is 3 mins, other than that start up times are usually seconds. If wind turbine is stop-starting that much, it's a poor site to install to. Also does not qualify for FiT - loads of money lost, or if he has ignored that bit, he is a danger to DNO staff.

Thanks binky,

I thought as much to be honest.  Just a point i'd rather have checked.

I've never seen a turbine installed, so just wondered.
