That's the last time you can go out with your friends when they knock for you, now go to your room!!

mind I like how you took one for the team, to end up with victory!

We were discussing the mid life crisis and how some blokes go for a fancy new car, Subaru or something and some go for a younger woman. I said with me it would have to be the younger woman, I haven't got the cash to afford the new car. Mind you I don't think I'd even get one of them the way I am, I tried one of those dating sites, it said, describe your body. Somehow I think, "a bit like a rental property that's been abused by the tenants" may have been the wrong answer. lol :slap

On the subject of "Growing old "    I went for an eye test today ....always need glasses for reading & close up  work....she said you are a tiny fraction just  below the legal driving limit    ....I would have had to ban you from driving until your new specs arrived.     Blimey!

I presume they are obliged to inform the Swansea licensing place.

you think women are cheaper??? :slap
If I got another like the one I've got definitely, the only arguments we have are over her NOT spending money! I can go out and spend any amount on tools, cars, over the weekend I spend £400 on a new tv and sound bar and she doesn't bother, yet I had to force her to go out and buy a new top and some other bits that she needed. We have 2 bank accounts, mine and hers, all the bills come out of mine and her wages go into mine, my money goes into hers and she won't spend a penny of it without asking me first, a real diamond she is.

It is courgette all to do with an optician whether your sight is good enough. They must tell you, but you are responsible for reporting yourself.. The DVLA would send you to a driving test centre. You would read a number plate in front of a test examiner, and you either pass or fail.. Trust me, i had seen it done [the test that is]

If you think a patient is unfit to drive

A215

The DVLA and the DVA have legal responsibility for deciding if a person is medically unfit to drive.

A216

The patient is legally responsible for informing the DVLA or DVA if they do not meet the vision standard for driving. However, if you think the patient may pose a very real risk of danger to the public or themselves, but you are not sure whether you should act, ask yourself:

what might the outcome be in the short or longer term if I do not raise my concern? And,

how could I justify why I did not raise the concern?

A217

If you decide that the patient is unfit to drive, you should:

first advise the patient that they are unfit to drive and give the reasons

try to persuade the patient to stop driving. You may wish to discuss your concerns with a relative or carer

tell the patient that they have a legal duty to inform the DVLA or DVA about their condition

put your advice in writing to the patient, if appropriate

keep a copy of any correspondence to the patient on the patient record, and

notify the patient’s GP, if appropriate with the patient’s consent.

A218

Sometimes the actions in para A217 above might not achieve their aim, or would take too long to do so. If you conclude the public interest outweighs the duty of confidentiality, for example a patient who has told you that they intend to continue to drive after being told not to, you should:

notify the appropriate authority in writing, and, if appropriate, provide evidence of clinical findings

notify the patient’s GP of the action being taken, and

notify the patient, if appropriate.

A219

If you are considering informing the DVLA or DVA that the patient may not be fit to drive, you may wish to contact your professional or representative body for advice.58

Well that form is a bit ambiguous Apprentii  .... she actually said , " I'm glad you read that out correctly because you would have been over the legal driving criteria"

Didn't actually say "I'm going to have to wrestle the car keys from you  and cut your license in half :B "    But your form says  to take action in A218.

Is it akin to one of us  comming upon a highly dangerous installation with a danger to life ?

We have no powers .

We could issue one of those "Red Danger"   forms  and walk away .

We could inform the NICEIC ..can't see that doing anything.

We could inform the Fire Brigade , MP, Solicitor  or the DNO  .

Not sure what action would be taken TBH.          I seem to remember it being said that the old Electricity Boards  ( MEB...Manweb etc )  could cut the supply if they considered it a danger to life.

Re-read it CAREFULLY....

A217 tells the optician to tell the person to stop driving, and instructs them to tell the person that they THEMSELVES have a duty to inform the DVLA

"tell the patient that THEY have a legal duty to inform the DVLA or DVA about their condition"

The section below, A218, would only come into play if they believed that a patient would not cease driving,,,,,

If you conclude the public interest outweighs the duty of confidentiality, for example a patient who has told you that they intend to continue to drive after being told not to, you should: notify the appropriate authority in writing, and, if appropriate, provide evidence of clinical finding

Then the next bit is applicable..

You are worrying about nothing!!!!! You passed anyway, so no worries!!

john..

reminds of the 2 old fellas who used to get about in a combo (motorbike and sidecar to our younger members), the passenger used to give instructions to the driver.....

I'm not worrying Apprentii  ...I went there because I realised I was struggling to drive in the dark ,  all the tail lights were like great blurred shimmering doo-dahs ...so I actually measured 25 mtrs to read a number plate ,  I read it with a struggle TBH  .

And have ordered driving glasses along with new reading glasses ....that problem became apparent when I ordered a new, reprinted, EIC book and found that I couldn't read the print above the columns .

The ex-wife went for an eye test before we married.

Optician “do you drive?”

Ex-wife “yes”

Optician “dear god, you’ve only been giving the pedestrians a sporting chance!”

I’ve banned myself from driving, back outs on the road aren’t good for other motorists.
