I just heard on the radio that H.I.P.s are to be scrapped. They said that efficiency certificate would still be a required though. Wonder what other changes may be planed?

Doc H.

Not sorry to see them go but do have sympathy with those who have paid money to train as assessors & have tried to make a go of it as a career.

Anything that saves money? It's not going to be pleasant, but is needed.

I thought that HIP's were actually quite a good idea, it was just badly implimented. Should have included a full survey and gas and electrical safety certificates. Don't give a damn about the energy efficiency of a house. Dodgy electrics or woodworm more likely to make me not buy it than lack of roof insulation!

You have hit the nail on the head there.

The original plan was to have it much as you describe, but it got massively watered down by the inept government until it was just a pointless waste of time and money.

I hope there is a quango somewhere behind it that meets a timely death too!

:)

Start with scrapping HIPs next on the agenda......re-vamp "part P" prehaps?

Unfortunately, The government think the total opposite.

Grrr

The actual standing is that they are now suspended, a change of law would be needed to eventually scrap them altogether. I guess this would leave some people in "limbo"

They were a cover for a govt plan to gather data on houses so they could put you in a higher council tax band.
And I thought I was a conspiricy theorist.

This was in the daily mail this week. so not a conspiracy theory but it seems the truth is coming out about things now we have a new gov't - new broom, clean sweep etc. Probably just trying to gain public confidence so they can pull another fast one like the last lot!

so it must be true then,

ROTFWLROTFWLROTFWL

So what is the outcome then? or do we simply not know are they going or not? :C

Apparently there has been a rise in houses being offered for sale since the suspension of the HIPS. Also a rise last month of 0.5% in house prices.
