This has been like this since I’ve been here and I’m revamping so need to sort it , the house has 1 light downstairs using 2 switch 1 single 1 double the double also controls the upstairs light , then there’s a double upstairs that controls the bathroom and the upstairs light

The single downstairs does nothing the double downstairs only controls the downstairs light
The double upstairs switches on the upstairs light but the bathroom light is permanently on

There are 10 wires in the upstairs switch 2 black / brown sleeve 2 grey / brown sleeves 6 browns it also has a bridge wire

There are 3 wires in the single 1 black / brown sleeve 1 grey /brown sleeve 1 brown

There 7 wires in the downstairs double 2 grey /brown sleeve 2 black/brown sleeve 3 brown
I’m aware that this is a complete mess I just haven’t got the money to spend on getting someone in the house has cost a small fortune already, so any help I would appreciate

Hi Shaz,

Welcome.
Appreciate you don't want to fork out for an electrician to visit but some testing really needs to take place before someone gets hurt. Sounds like some cables have been crossed (literally) and in such an unknown state could cause harm to someone who isn't competent in testing and fault finding.
It's difficult to advise where to start apart from you need some test equipment to determine what is your feed and what is going to your switch lines. Someone has put some strappers on the cables but to be honest, I wouldn't trust them in the state that the lights are in at the moment.

I'd highly advise calling an electrician to take a look - lives are more valuable than money.

Probably best the live switched are live switched so the sleeves are correct after testing I know that much , there are in fact 9 wires not 10 thanks for your help
