Hi, just trying to update a metal fronted light switch with a new plastic one but there seems to be wiring that I don't understand fully. There is a green which goes to the earth into the socket box in the wall (into a screw), yellow into the top of the switch block, and red and blue out of the bottom of the switch block. It only controls one pendant light. I'd be grateful if you could tell me what to do to change it into a modern plastic switch. I can post a picture of this helps. Thanks in advance

the earth (green) will go to the metal backbox instead of the switch if the new one is plastic. rest of wiring will be the same between old and new

since the earth is green, that suggests that the wiring is old (probably 60's). if you havent done so already, it may be a good idea to get a sparky out to check over all the wiring to ensure its still safe for use

Also it sounds like a 2 way switch  ............when you say  Red & Blue out of the bottom ...do they go into seperate terminals ?

In other words , are there 3 seperate terminals in use on your old switch?
