Hi Guys,  been a long long time since i posted so here goes :D

currently working on a job where the client wants  6 external lights installed, 3 Motion Sensor Security Lights on the front of the house,   3 Switched Spotlights down the driveway at the side of the property.

intiially i think ok not a problem....
client then comes out with this lil problem.

No Conduit
No Copex
No Cables to be Visable on the walls externally
No Walls to be damaged internally
No Trunking or internal Conduit runs.

Beginning to think this client wants the impossibility of WIRELESS ELECTRICITY!!!

am i missing a trick here!!!! or is it just the client being a pain in the arse!

i have walked away for now and said to the client to call me when he decides a way that what he wants can be installed  so that i can run cables safely! failing that he aint having any outside lighting

It'll be ok if there's a socket behind every lighting point that he wants,,,

SWFS right beside and cable into back of fitting..

otherwise

WALK..... it's just not worth the hassle,,,

unless you think that there's a way to do it really neatly and that he's going to sing your praises to all and sundry

Give them a price for doing the job without cables on show or conduit, I'd say in the region of £30K should get their attention.

knowing my luck M  he would accept the quote that  price  the guy has more money then sense!!

its just puzzled me how on earth he expects me to install  them! lol!

p.s hope u all well :)

even putting a SWFS behind each lighting point   the walls are solid brick and i highly doubt the guy is going to let me chase anything.

can one of u intelligent lot invent wireless electric please!   make my life simpler

Rob  its funny u post them actually i have a set of them in my van they aint half bad tbh

that was one of my initial suggestions Apache, but alas  he wasnt open to that suggestion as it would have meant pulling up his carpet,  he is being so restrictive.

he is living in cloud cuckoo land tbh as he seems to have it in his head that it can be done without damage or external evidence and its practically impossible

Just tell him you have double checked with all of your suppliers...

BUT unfortunately they are all out of stock of invisible cable & they are not expecting a delivery of any soon.

So if he can supply some of the invisible cable that is needed to do this sort of job,

You will be more than happy to install it for him when he has got it...

Alternatively it is going to have to be lampposts stuck in the ground with real physical cable buried underground.

Guinness

hahahha Special  yeh    unfortunatly i cant see the invisible cable either!  so installing them shud be a fun game :p

im gonna go see him tomorrow methinks and explain to him that it really can not be done any other way  he should have thought on about external lighting when he renovated the house 3 years ago!!!! the dimwit

dont get me wrong i have respect for my customers  but some realllllly  do like to grind ya gear

Attic space is a music room binky     :(

have told the guy i decline the job on the grounds of what he wants is completely impossible,  i seldom give up a challanging job but his goes beyond the realms of reality.

printed concrete driveway  straight through  so no option of burying supply either

the side drive where he wants the switched lights   the wall leads into the lounge area,

the front lighting  rooms are a downstairs wetroom,  the porchway and a closet

c/u located in utility room at rear of property approx 50m from front of property,
Outside Sauna/Steam room  fed via  16mm SWA around 5m from utility room door

house was derelict for some time till purchased at auction 3 yr ago and current owner renovated it,

my original solution was

Option A: White Conduit  which would blend in with the white fronted property

Option B: run cables internally chasing into and through wall and then making good the area,

Option C  pulling up flooring to 1st floor  giving access to  cieling void and bring to external.

neither of which client was happy with.  so therefore walked away  explainin that i can not work miracles  i can not install lighting without some form of supply  to illuminate said lighting.    he has my number so if he decides he wants to go ahead with one of the options which actualy involves  cables and installing lighting then to give me a ring

Husky , I have a coil of invisible  1.00mm T/E   AND two boxes of invisible clips .  You can have them for free if I can ever find the damn stuff.  Unfortunately the Regs state that because it can't be seen its a hazard  so it has to be run in conduit .

I've had customers like that ,  throwing up objections to everything you suggest.

You don't need to walk from that job ....you need to leap onto a fast horse and gallop off like the Hounds of Hell are after you .    It would be a nightmare !!!.

If he is not happy BEFORE you start, then how happy is he going to be when you have finished?

my money is on "not very"

after 40 years as A Spark i have learned Many things...one of those is this

if a job looks like faeces

smells like faeces

smells like faeces

tastes like faeces....then there is little chance it is going to turn out to be chocolate fudge sauce
