At the church is a ceiling mounted projector. For a long time it has been cutting out on hi temp due to dust and clogged filters etc. Also there was a noticeable smear mark on the screen.

It also needed moving further back to give a bigger image so this week I got the scaffold tower out and set about moving it. While I was at it I decided to give it a bit of a service.

I removed the lamp assy, the covers, all filters, removed the main PCB and gave everything a good blow out (gently) with an air duster. I cleaned the lens and the glass diffuser (in the lamp area) with alcohol wipes.

I carefully reassembled the projector and reinstalled it. Now it will not detect any RGB inputs. Composite is fine - DVD etc. Checked everything on the menus and checked the output from the PC cable on another projector so its definitely something to do with the RGB inputs in the projector. Any ideas? :C

you broke it.!

is there a little switch or anything that could have gotten moved by chance?

took it apart several times since looking for dip switches or reset buttons or anything and nothing out of place. The fact that it works on composite signal means its something on the input side.

sorry rev, not something I know much about,

thinking about it,

I dont know much about most things, :C

some of our more astute AV peeps will be of more help Im sure,

Common failure with 15pin D-Subs - pin(s) can often be bent back inside the connector with ham fisted users, but not the sort of thing a man of your calibre would do of course :Blushing

And when you said that you tried the cable on something else it was the same cable?

Have another look through the Menu it could be an output setting that has been lost when you removed the PCB :|

Also have a look for any other ribbon links that may have tugged loose

Thanks the 15 pin was the same and it worked on the other projector. I also checked both sockets RGB1 and RGB2 - definitely thinking software related. There is an RS232 connector but not sure what protocol it uses.

In the end, as its an old machine (10 years) I decided to just get a

Often just a case of sending an ASCII string over TTL console, you'd need the list of command strings for that device, but I'd guess that it's a common set used by many projectors
Thanks but still not sure how to do that. I now have the manual but thats not very clear either. Its not too good with the composite signal and bright weather makes it even harder to see. I take it TTL Console is a programme?

Sorry just noticed my typo it's TTY not TTL You'd need Telnet, PuTTY or similar PuTTY: a free telnet/ssh client

Essentially you send a string of characters (ASCII) at the device in a defined sequence terminating with CR (Carriage Return in ASCII), an example alt236: Projector RS-232 Commands

Here is a file with a list of Hitachi codes in HEX (same principle as an ASCII code) which might help Download hitachi-projector.zip from Remote Central
