SWMBO wants to watch something from BBC iplayer.

go the the BBC iplayer website, choose her program.

It says you need to install the adobe flash player to do this. follow this link.

From that link select flash player for ubunto from the available operating systems listed.

click to download.

It takes her to the ubuntu software centre where it says no application matching that description or words to that effect.

she's using Chrome as her browser which I though was supposed to include all these players?

Thanks.  I'll give that a try later when I get back from work.

I just thought it was poor of the BBC to tell you you need the player, provide a page to select your OS, then sends you off to a dead link to try to download it.

You should be able to download the standalone (redistributable) installer from here; http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
Somebody hold my hand please.

I have downloaded that and unpacked the files

I take a read od the setup instructions. Here's the basics:

o Unpack the tar.gz file.  Once unpacked you will see the following:        + libflashplayer.so

        + /usr

o Identify the location of the browser plugins directory, based on your Linux distribution and Firefox version

o Copy libflashplayer.so to the appropriate browser plugins directory.  At the prompt type:

        + cp libflashlayer.so <BrowserPluginsLocation>

o Copy the Flash Player Local Settings configurations files to the /usr directory.  At the prompt type:

        + sudo cp -r usr/* /usr

[/qoute]

Okay, just where is the "browser plugins directory" on Linux using Chrome?

Where is the "appropriate browser plugin directory"?

And where do I find the "local settings configurations files?"

Why can't they just make an application that just downloads and installs?

If I had known I would have installed Zorin headbang

I must admit I too, struggle using / navigating from the terminal. Not that it's maybe much help but before I put Zorin on I was running Ubuntu 12.04 (or 13...something). I'm sure I either just typed in "Adobe"at the "Software Centre" selected the top one "Adobe Flash Plugin" and clicked "Install"?

Have also gone to here:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?no_redirect

And selected "APT for Ubuntu 10.04+" and then "Download now" and it's gone on all automatically........

EDIT:

Just copy and past this into the terminal and hit Enter:

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer

flashplugin-installer is already the newest version.
