Hi i have a question for the forum about how to support cable? the problem is i have been to look at a job for a customer who would like to renew the cable from the house to the garage. The garage is 10 meters from the house and the drive is all block paving (so underground not option). The problem is what prouduct is able to support a cable 10 meters and do i need to build some sort of structure to support this. I looked a cable trays but they are 3 meters in lenght and don't understand how i would support this over 10 meter run. any help would be very much appriciated. Thanks Noel

could you not just use a catenary wire of appropriate strength size and support the armoured cable from that, what amperage is required at garage, 20 amps? if 20 amps, then 4mm or 6mm armoured 3core would be plenty.

Is it a brick garage and how much height have you got to work with? As has been suggested if you cant go underground its either around a perimeter or overhead. Steel Catenary Wire and Accessories What size cable are you needed to support?

As we have covered before don't forget the strength of the end fixings, as the wire tension and mass/wind/ice load can be quite a suprise!

10mtrs is a long way to catenary. Can he not take up the block paving and relay, do a proper job?

Or rather 10m is a long way for a domestic catenary. Numerous non-domestic situations have spans far exceeding 10m. We do need to know what size cable is required. If just for a light and one lawn mower socket its an easier proposition than for heating and workshop tools.

how about some double uni-strut? comes in 5m lengths, and with a proper joint, or welded, it will carry it no problem.

I recently done 18m run using this method, overlap joints bolted and MIG'd, 25mm 4core SWA.

10 metres on a catenary doesn't seem too far to me have done quite a few and not been called back yet. A lot depends what you have to fix into even if it is wood generally there will be a way to fix to it.

I find it best to wear a scarf and hat with CABLE written on them, and shout CABLE - then clap clap clap.......sorry couldnt resist. Best of luck with sensible replies.
I was thinking more along the lines of

2, 4, 6, 8 who do we apprecate CABLE
