I'm starting out on a battery storage project which have 16 x 280a/H LifeP04 cells connected in series to give 48v. A DALY BMS will manage the balancing of the cells feeding a grid tied inverted which I have yet to decide on.

My existing invert a Growatt SPH6000 has a battery comms port for dedicated Growatt batteries and an RS485 port allegedly for communication to other batteries. Is there a standard of communications protocols for this like there is for cars and ODBII diagnostics for example? Are inverters happy in general to run without comms between the battery and the inverter? I plan to run in this mode with no comms if I cant find the definitive answer.

As always, any help / advice gratefully received.
