Hi guys ,just wanted to ask about a common practice when changing a consumer unit in a domestic property. When you don't have an isolator( and usually isn't one) between the tails and the CU ,do you cut the seal and take out the fuse in the cut out or.... U call DNO pay them a fee .... I know that is a common practice to cut the seal and take the fuse out and don't worry about DNO... What's your opinion?

I believe that the seal fairy is 'omnipresent'......................... :coat
like Santa,? (I like Santa, [but not the dyslexic one] )

or one of the many Gods/gods that folks believe in if you are of that persuasion,

now, how do I make beer omnipresent...............

I phoned the dno to cut the feed, told me the wouldn't, get an electrician in to "isolate" the feed, telling me they'll cut the seal and take fuse out! Horses mouth and all that, not intrested basically! Not worth losing any sleep over tbh.

Its the age old question , and typically it was discussed for about a year by the powers that be , and of course , failed to reach a decision as to whether "Competent persons" could legally remove main fuses.

My Assessor at my ELECSA assessment asked me the correct way to isolate the tails on a board change, I told him that I would ring the supplier, thinking this was the answer he would be looking for and he corrected me, saying 'just pull the fuse out and make sure you don't leave the seal lying around'. So.....
