Just spent two hours on Youtube watching my favourite female singer of all time. Its the prize competition for this week to guess who it is .

The prize will be announced tomorrow for the first correct answer .

Clue 1. This singer has the most clear and pure voice of any popular singer from the early sixties to the present , never hits a bad note and seems to sing effortlessly.

Clue 2. Note that I may be a fraction older than some Forumites. So we are not looking for Palona Faith , Girls Aloud, Brittany Ferrys, or Houston We have a Problem.

( Anyone comes up with Vera Lynne is a dead man !!!)

hmmm.... the most clear and pure voice? and a 'popular' singer...

by popular, shall we take it that you mean 'not famous for a specific genre' ( eg... katherine jenkins or charlotte church...both pure and clear (voices anyway)...famous for opera)

possibles then.... diana ross.... maria carey... karen carpenter.... patti austin... barbara streisand.... celine dion...

i think another clue is needed here....

She has been compared to both Karen Carpenter and Eva Cassidy .

The word Popular may not be the right one.... erm... actually a jazz singer who crossed over to Pop/Folk then went back again , all in the 60s but still does concert tours.

Brian? :C

I'm sorry but Brian is no singer, our dog can phart more tunefully than Brian sings. He tried to enter the Dorothy competition till we explained that he needed (a) to able to sing, (B) be taller than 10mm © be human and (d) be a female human.
