If all your alterations are in the ceiling void... then most probably No RCD needed. ; \

Only your new work complies with current regs...
existing work that you are NOT touching stays compatible with the earlier version of regs that was current when it was originally installed. (unless of course you identify some really serious deviation from regs which is unsafe & would render your alterations unsafe!)
If you want to put an RCD in ... there is no reason why you can't... but you don't have to...
If you knew that the customer has more alterations that Will be involving buried cables in walls...
than may be beneficial to install RCD now if the customer so wished?
