Hi all

I carefully labelled each wire/pair of wires in the existing (10 year-old) double 2 way switch, as L1, L2 and L3. But when I looked at the new dimmer switch I'd bought, it had L1, L2 and a symbol I assume means common - like two bits of wire twisted round each other. This double switch is on the first floor landing.

I connected L1 wire to L1, L2 wires to L2 and L3 wires to common but now the light upstairs won't switch off. And the downstairs switch doesn't turn off the light on the landing . The dimmers do work though i.e. you can turn down the light, you just can't switch it off!!!

What am I doing wrong? (please don't just say 'not getting a pro sparky in to do this' - it's too late for that!

To make matters worse, I chucked out the old switch, so I can't just put it back

Any thoughts welcome

David
