Hi,

I am looking for a large solar system with battery storage to see if I can have no electricity bill over summer months and minimal over winter ( plan to charge battery at night using low cost off peak electicity (such as octopus EV tarffic)

My usage is 30Kw per day. I also plan to change boiler to Air source heat pump in near future.

My requirements are-
30Kw- 40kw battery storage
10kw continues discharge so I can run all appliances at the same time if required.

I have a large south facing roof which can take 8-10kw solar panels.

I need some advice re this size of solar panels and battery options required to produce enough power all appliances plus air source heat pump as well as fully charge battery during the day.

Thanks

Wind and Sun used to be good for giving info on things like this.
Obviously you aren't going to get rid of the standing charge.
DNO may not allow such a big system
Last I heard Octopus no longer alloe 'battery only' people to join the Go Tariff.

We do have jobs to do.

1/ I would have a serious look at reducing your energy consumption and reduce where possible.
2/ max out your solar array, a 4kw system can generate around 25kwh this time of year, but winter will be a very different matter.
3/ 10 kw continuous discharge is into 3 phase territory, do you have a 3 phase supply to your property?
4/ work on the basis you will be putting a large hole in your bill rather than meeting all your needs.
5/ ASHP are not efficient, I would avoid that route. GSHP are much better, but difficult to retro fit suitable heating systems.

Thanks a lot Binky

I dont think we can reduce usage much and hence planning to fit a system which is bit future proof

Can you please advice
What is the best system for my usage?
Which battery has highest continuous discharge on a single phase?

Best system, whatever you can currently get hold of! The run on solar and batteries has left the wholeslaers out of much stock, plus China is undergoing various covid lockdowns, so that will impact future deliveries. Personally I like Solis and Pylontech batteries, but so does everybody else coz the prices are good and kit seems reliable. The only thing I would say is avoid Growatt.

Now, to cope with the solar array and single phase supply, you will probably need multiple hybrid inverters and battery stacks. 2off 5Kw inverters will deliver your energy demands, and 6kW seems to be the limit on single phase currently in stock. I would suggest you get several companies in to quote for the work properly.
