leading edge transformers

Hi,

Does anyone know what "leading edge transformer" mean?

I'm about to buy a dimmer switch for inductive loads (old downlight transformers wire wound) and the supplyer told me that the dimmer is compatible with leading edge transformers.

Any idea?

Ithought it was the dimmers that were leading or trailing edge . Electronic trannies are OK for all dimmers , I believe. MMmmmm not really sure on this , see what others say.

What is leading edge control? Part of the leading edge of the sine wave is removed using a triac dimmer (leading-edge dimming).

Not sure if that makes any sense to you

Would have thought its referring to a more specialized application and not to your bog standard Dimmer / transformer combination ?:|
