Installing a CCTV at the place I now working at full-time. HAd a quote from a local company that offered to install 2 x cameras, hard disk based recorder (PIR activated) with DVD reader/writer for taking copies, monitor. All installed and maintained. They only rent the systems and want

I'm not an expert, but wireless transmissions cannot be that bad, surely?

If people say it's useless, then why? Let's here the reasons..

?:|

Agreed Ext. If they were useless then the manufacturers would soon be forced to stop selling the through lack of sales.

The other thing I was looking into was ANPR's (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) systems as I was investigating installing entry gates to the park controlled by recognising number plates. What a rip-off market that one is - the camera along costs

cctv is quite specialised equipment, its really not just a case of sticking a couple of cables in annd plugging every thing together.

the quote you had does sound expensive tbh, i persoanlly dont like wirless as wetaher conditions and site conditions can effect it severly. one of the problems that wirless transmission cause is becuase wirless signals in britain are mainly 2.4 ghz, if anyone has a router with wireless, or they also have other equipment in range that is the same frequency then this will interfere with your wirless equpiment, also if it rains hard, had gales or high winds then again this can make the signal become weak etc.

if you can get a duct put in the ground then wiring will be alot easier and if more cables have to be installed.

Thanks for that FlyingScot.

What you say is sound and logical, there had to be a REAL reason and you have just cited a few (against wireless). Running ducts at this site would be a mind blowing task - there are 140 plots each with a hedge around it so each resident has their own garden. The roads (private) of which there is about 1 mile in total are single track. Very heavily wooded so bad that roads repairs due to roots digging up the road is a major pain in the arris-rail and costly to repair. So the only sane financial approach is catenary, even BT put all their cables inside the hedges at surface level.

catenary would be the best solution in this case then but a bit of advice if i may try and use outdoor coax for the runs or shove it through a copex 25mm that way the cable wont become messy after a year or so and the weather conditions will not be against the cable itslelf.

just a bit of advice that i do where i can on caternary regarding alarm and cctv cables. amroured wont have any problemms as you know as it strong but cctv coax and alarm cable is very small and delicate

No fs, I mean Haggis, that is not what I meant. ]:)

I meant that the replies have been useless :^O

"Specialist"!! You have to be joking! The word "specialist" is reserved for plumbers when some poor old unsuspecting punter asks them "How much will that be then...?". Normally followed by a whistling through the teeth following by mutterings of "a specialist job" and "need to get my mate in as well".

CCTV cameras "specialist" ffs ya HAVE to be kidding. Ya mean advice such as 'coax is delicate' lmao - never I thought that it was like SWA :^O :^O

Is that all!! Tell me how I get to 'warn level' 1,234,567,765,432,333,452% coz I wanna be there :p

Besides how the ferk did YOU get to be a Mod, they MUST have been desperate :p :p

Only kidding, geezz some people are SO sensitive and Old Haggis is one very sensitive person, as I well know of days gone by at another place. :(
