Looking back in time .

This afternoon a newspaper came to light after 26 years .   A Birmingham Mail  from Feb 1990.   So other than Anthea Turner marrying someone called Peter Parker the noticeable thing was the number of jobs in Situations Vacant compared to today.   

I counted one column and multiplied but would estimate about 1000 jobs ................ yet  98%  were clerical ,  secretaries , legal, accounts clerks, retail managers,  drivers  . 

There were two ads for Pipe fitter & mates.        No construction workers ... no sparks, plumbers , etc  zilch!

Many moons ago we were looking for another electrician. I asked the personnel department how they were going on with the search. “There’s no unemployed electricians in the area, only the unemployable.”
