I recently installed a 28w Low Energy Bulkhead (http://www.wickes.co.uk/28W-Low-Energy-Bulkhead/invt/187097) and a standalone 180 PIR sensor (http://www.ced.ie/product_catalog/product_profile/PIR200,167,2614.html?PHPSESSID=776f39fa6cc9607598a3a6bad172a553). All was fine when I left, however 3 weeks later the client has reported that the light, when triggered, is now switching itself on for the desired duration then off and then immediately straight back on again (Ad infinitum). Is there any reason why these two products would be incompatible or is this just a faulty PIR?

Thanks in advance.

Check the manufactures instructions for the lamp. Many CFL low energy lamps are not designed for use with PIR sensors.

Well the PIR instructions didn't say it couldn't switch a low energy fitting and the low energy fitting didn't say it couldn't be switched by a PIR - but after swapping in new PIR i can report that they were incompatible!

So I changed to incandescent lamp. Then had to go through tortuous PIR setup once again. Not sure I would fit indepent components like this again - at least with all in one each manufacturer can't blame the other.

Anyhow all this time I have been labouring under the misapprehension that PIR meant Passive Infra Red - I now realise that it in fact stands for Pain In Rear!
