Evening all,

I have a customer in need of some low energy downlights to satisfy the building inspector, should he care to check. Conflicting opinions from my local CEF. Manager believes the CFL GU10's in the Low Energy specific lamp holders would satisfy BC. His assistant says it must be the specific Low Energy lamps with the dedicated pin configuration.

Does anyone have any experience on this?

Many thanks,

Fitz

Bullet points 43, 44, 45, 46 & 47..

Tell you what the building regs guidance says on FIXED INTERNAL LIGHTING!

I think the basic point is that fittings can only take low energy lamps..

i.e. those with 40 lumen's per circuit Watt or greater.

:)

we use Megaman low energy lamps where possible..... i think there great but others wouldnt have them atal.....

So the answer is

If the CFL FITTINGS can only take CFL lamps then thats ok.

Sparkytim,The trouble is they can be "adjusted" to take standard GU10's, hence the debate.
I think if they put standard gu10's in low energy fittings it will probably bu..er them as they are sealed they probably will last for a day then pack up due to overheating.

Hi Batty,

The fittings i've seen are simply fire can type bodies with a plastic cage arrangement that holds the lamp. This cage can be cut away therefor allowing the fitting of a standard GU10. The really annoying thing is CEF only seem to offer an ugly open small florrie type lamp in the specific fitting or the CFL GU10's. Oh and LEDs at

Yup JCC ones are the best on the market at the moment i would have said, i installed some Danic ones today with megamans .... i was impressed :)

I am also under the impression the megaman and jcc ones comply with L1. So what if someone can modify one to fit a std lamp, they can also modify a low energy pendant by replacing it so it takes a std lamp too and no one worries about that.

If LABC do not like it, get them to put it in writing and then contact megaman for advice.

As much as everyone hates it, a BCO has the final say, regardless of what is in writing.

Why try and make life hard for yourselves?

If thats what he wants, then do it, get paid, and GTFO.

BCO's don't as you can appeal which is why mine tend to discuss and research when challenged. You probably have some ex builders who think theynknow everything.
