one machine went bang today nothing to do with me as i did nt do it wire anything up. got called out to look.

another trips everytime it is turned on.

not done any test yet as did not have time.

one machine is a compressor about 30 years old. that one went bang

other is a little drill. rcd keeps tripping, no that i ran of 16a mcb. what they said would b fine.

compressor on a 32a mcb. what could be the problam? for it to go bang. all ran from sockets? the board only has 4 ways and is 3phase.

basicly did go bang, turned on the old isolator for it and it just went bang lol nothing more to say! lol apart from bang witha bit of smoke.

may be the drill need to step up to a 32a?

where was the smoke coming from? give us something to go with....

as for the drill, you need to re-think what the RCD does... it has nothing to do with current, so upgrading supply to 32A wont help anything. infact, it will make it worse (unless it really is 32A)

i told them it prob is a problam with the machines.

the smoke came from the isolator? i told them to touch it till i came back!

may be the osolator has a problam as i did not have time to look. its about 30 years old

How can you tell the customer the machine is at fault when you actually have no idea what is wrong, and upping protective device ratings to overcome tripping without identifying what is causing it, well, beyond cowboyish.

will do. as i said not looked at any thing will get back to u wen i look. what could b the prob in drill? faults between l and e? trips rcd not mcb

As i said i basically got called out and i just said it "could be" and will do test when i have time nothing else to say. the machines r very very old,

Going to be REALLY stupid here - was the (ex) compressor 3phase, or single?

What voltage was fed to it? i.e. is there any possibility of it having L1L2 instead of L! and N? Cos that`d cause a "banging" type bang to occur.

The RCD - trips when the drill "isolator" is operated. Is this also the "start" button for the drill?

sorry electro, but are you by any chance a 5week wonder.?
lol depends on what u mean by a 5week wonder lol.

i just thought u could all help with the possible solutions of why it went bang. that was all. seeing as most of u here prob has more experience with 3phase and machines that was it, i will run test and get back with results jesus.

thats Jesus with a capital 'J' perhaps you should consider asking Him for some help. I've had divine intervention on several occasions.
