Had to order one of theses as a replacement  ( flush box /tiled)   .  I was thinking about the MK blurb about being made in England  as I fitted it . (Hint;  Need to tap out fixing screw threads to metric)    Well not these ...in tiny letters moulded in the plastic ,   " Made in Malaysia "

And we are proposing to enter world trade with totally decimated manufacturing base .    ( Bridgend  engine plant to close now , following Toyota , Honda  et al.)  As predicted by Deke  but no one listens   :innocent

It just saddens me ,   the unit I removed was around 40 yrs old  , and compared to the replacement , you could say it was over-engineered  with  double screw terminals , deep terminal sockets, a solid vertical fixing bracket  .

Replacement .......... single screw terminals , not so deep,  a flimsy fixing bracket that was being thrust & distorted forwards by the 6 mm cables  .

I fitted an MK consumer unit this week.  First MK one for a looooong time, and only because the customer specified that was what he wanted.

I had great trouble getting one of the meter tails to clamp properly, and similar trouble getting both the legs of a ring final to clamp securely.  And the icing on the cake, half the MCB labels would not peel off the label sheet.

Utter carp if you ask me.  Won't be fitting another if I can help it.

I recall running an earth link  to the metal surface back box

Dunno why that has surfaced again after 40 plus years!!
Thats how the brain works ...mention something and similar to Google  (but faster)  the brain seems to scan everything stored there & reminds you of stuff you'd not thought about for 40 yrs .

I heard the other day that the human  brain has more connecting receptors  (Forgot the correct term)   than all the computers in all the world  combined.

I also heard that the brain of a proper London cabbie  , when scanned after attaining "The Knowledge"  , shows a marked difference   to an ordinary person.

When I worked with "Bob the Breakdown "    I noticed how quickly he assimilated stuff  like schematic wiring diagrams applied to a particular machine or process.

He'd be looking at a fault and bouncing stuff off you  like .... well thats not going work until R1 ..R3 & R4  are closed & they won' t close without  the Oil Pressure contactor being  closed  with a signal back from the pressure switch  through N/C on the contactor back to the start button via the stop button & all the safeties are shut .

Usually before even opening the panel .

Meter tails..."Denmans have started doing multi strand flexible 25mm!
What !!!  Instead of that rock hard  metal carp  they dare to call call copper ????      About time too !!!

'm sure far east manufacturers are quite capable of making quality items. The question is who is designing the inadequate items ?

I think the current trend is to forget quality and build cheap .    Those hard meter tails were carp , couldn't have been much copper in them .

Imagine buying a new house that has been thrown together by a combination of a  leading house builder  trying to cut corners & maximise profits  and a bunch of subbies  who are on a cut throat price and don't give a damn . ?

That’s how you become. R2 hasn’t pulled in, you automatically head for PXxxx and clean the lettuced off it.

I was working with a Brummie spark today and that's exactly the way he was operating.

He was integrating  a new panel into one of our presses. We're getting a new hydraulic desch clutch installed. There was a fella from Dusseldorf there too setting the clutch.

Great !!  Not Bob the Breakdown though ...his missus made him retire !

Now you sure the guy wasn't a Yam-Yam   Rapparound?    'cos they go about masquerading as Brummies  .

He used to work for Wilkins and Mitchell. He's at Schuler now.

We had a yam yam in last year. He owns a private pub and even hired out the yam yam Elvis. Although his nickname was Scottie and he was originally born in Scotland. He had settled in yam yam land. The laugh of it was, none of the Irish fellas had a clue what or where yam yam is. Just nod and agree lol.

We also have a fella from Walsall and another from West Brom.

Yeah, it turns out the w&m guy is from a place outside Birmingham, copper north fields or something.

They're all brummies to me

Theres a district of Brum called Northfield .    Copper North Fields doesn't ring a bell  TBH.

Had to google yam-yam to follow this string. Another addition to my education!
Had to smile at that Geoff.

An example of the derivation would be :

Question :   "Am yow gooing ter the Baggies termorra ar kid ? "

Answer :-     "  Ar  oi yam ...am yow gooing "

Reply:-           " Naw om gooing inter Brum , darn the Villa wi' me mucka from werk"

Response :-   "   Ooo Ar  well yerl beorlroit  as lung as they dow ear yer spake "

I of course am from Birmingham  so therefore speak with a refined , old Etonian , BBC , received pronunciation  as befitting my station in society .
