Please could you help me the main fuse is just a normal holder but itsin red with no info on it as to its rating could anyone tell me how to find out its rating eg....60 80 or 100 amp

 
That is known as a Red head.

It is not a Fuse but a solid link used as an isolator in situations where the supply fuse is at another position and the DNO has provided the link cable to this position.

You will have to find the incoming supply position to locate the actual supply Fuse.

ye gods, think i have only come across one of those in 30 years of sparking, i had forgotten that existed.

 
Are you sure about that they may be the ones they use on off peak supplies. In my area they quite often a redish colour just put not verified on cert after all it is DNO property so should not be removed.

its normally used when 1 service head feeds another - solid link in first, so there is only 1 fuse to blow, and it wont be the one in another property etc

 
It's in a four-year-old block of flats. Each flat is just one large room with a separate shower/toilet room and entrance hall.
