Hi there

Has anybody had any experience of Megger 1502 (6 years old) tripping 6 and sometimes 10 amp RCBO's/MCB's when Z's testing. Mine nearly always does.

Any ideas? any way of preventing apart from replacing with 32 for testing.

Changing RCDs MCBs etc for testing is (as far as I know) a no no.....
not really a no-no, just inconvenient.

cant really help with the problem.... are you testing on hi or no trip? has the problem just started or always been there?

have u tried it ao different instalations, i had the same prob on a circuit with a low ir reading

I was told on the 2391 course that to change RCDs MCBs even for test purposes is not allowed as you make the circuit unsafe, what if you forget to swap back etc...
its common practice to remove RCDs when using testers what trip them

That'd be because of the 25A test current on loop tests.
The old yellow Robin loop testers used to trip 6 amp mcb's and as Lurch says its because it puts 25 amps down circuit momentarily which circuit breaker treats as overload. Modern testers only put small currents down so trips don't operate and RCD/RCBO's should not either. Not sure about tester you have but will say you should have brought a Fluke.

Depends on the breaker and the circuit to some extent. Our old Robin used to without fail trip every upstairs lighing circuit MCB. Downstairs ones, no problem. Just that extra bit on the Zs causes the MCB to trip.
If near to the CU you can sometimes hear the MCB chattering as it is almost about to trip... :(

but doesn't quite go! :)

that noise has always concerned me!

I think this has happened on and off since i bought it. It trips regardless of whether you're on "no trip" or 25a.

cheers guys but had to bite the bullet today (boo hoo) got a 1553 from CEF on the island 556 +vat, sad but seems like my best option. It's a big plus buying on-island in case of problems warranty etc.

Anybody had experience, it's got bluetooth connectivity and I'm old, so is it worth doing the software install and linking to PC etc or just use it as if stand alone
