Hello:D

Im not an electrican but Chairman of a Residents Association but have come on here for some advice please Pray

Our estate has just had CCTV fitted by Northern Counties Housing Association, at the moment we have a mixture of 70w & 150w SON floodlights, Streetforce which is Sheffield's highway & lighting department have suggested that for better picture viewing mercury or metal halide lighting is much better, because of the layout of the estate we would be better getting some metal halide bulkheads (with photocells) however they seem to be rare to get now :|

Screwfix did one at about

And by the way welcome to best electrical forum in the UK :D
Thanks for the welcome :)

Ive had a look at all the sites and the nearist is 80w MBF Starlux Bulkhead with Lamp which is sold by TLC however there is no photocell with it

Use one of these as an external cell to normal SON's. Just wire the lights through this. :)

All the existing son fittings (prob Thorne piaza) just change all the ballasts and lamps theres not a lot inside them, its easier and quicker and cheaper to change the ballast than change the fitting. The lamp will be ES just the same so no need to change the lampholder.

The photocell.......If possible you can fit one of the above to control all or a big part of the fittings, or fit what you call a 20mm remote photocell in each light. The one that has the mini photocell separate from the small control box is easier to fit, and most fittings have pushout plugs to accommodate these.
