Hi, if i have an existing mims cable supply but am rewiring the property anyway,do i have to feed it with a new supply cable?or is it still o.k to use it as the supply earth aswell??Cheers

Sorry its not even MIMS! think thats the new stuff, its old copper pyro.Thats sweet reckon i'll just keep it.Cheers

I prefer Pyro, much more action packed.

Mims sounds to girly.

without checking is it Mineral Insulated Metal Sheathed?
correct & thats the name (mims) now used in colleges for MICC, but try asking for mims at the wholesalers you'll get a puzzled look.

MICC in my book. The term Pyro is derived from the manufacturers name I belive.............. Pyrotenax

Cheaper ...Yes!! Equivalent ...NO!!! A professionally installed MICC installation will out class and out perform any other generally available wiring system of a given size. Unfortunately MICC cables are not generally available in the larger multi core sizes....

Do check Insualtion Resistance between conductors and copper sheath - if pots have become damaged, MI absorbs water. Other than that last for donkeys.

Anyone have any guidelines to life expectancy of MICC

+10> the life expectancy of anything it is connected to.

I installed about 2 Km of it about 7 years ago at Litts on the Rock for outside lights, clipped around the outside of a metal clad buildings during a glorious sunny summer, twas a lovely job,

nobody else in the firm had used it much so it was down to me,

helluva smelly place(its a knackers yard), but I got dirty money and you get used to the smell,!
