Knew it was going to be bad when the old (mid 50's) dear answered the door, feet & ankles looked like they hadnt been washed for a decade & toe nails were (yuck heave ughh) black long & curled over. Shes as mad as a f***ing hatter.

I'm not a lover of cats & this place is a 5 room groundfloor flat & the batty old dear has 6.................the place stinks to high heaven:_|

Cat crap dotted about the whole area even on the middle of the bed (she was cleaning that up when I arrived), cups & dishes stacked up unwashed & filth encrusted (makes my stomach churn just thinking about it). Bags of crap stacked all over the place.

She offered me a brew getting a cup that quite frankly needed steam cleaning before I found out what was in the bags ontop of the cups & plates on the worktop, plastic bags full of waste.................(I shudder & cringe)........litter tray waste:O " NO THANKS I'M FINE"

Anyway as the place was so bad when I found circuits wired in vri with insulation falling off, I said 'd saver here money & just do a visual inspection (a copout I know but the niff was soo bad) Pray

Couldnt get to many pics of the place (wanted to get done & away ) but heres the kitchens only worktop.

Inside the ccu. The other sparks (member of ECA p scheme) removed the tape off the switch & socket on front of ccu turned on the mcb & said yes it's fine to use.

"his plug in thing had 3 lights & he said it's safe to use" X(

He should have took a look in the enclosure..vri crispy/brittle insulation on line & neutral , line terminal all burnt up & screw wouldnt tighten down on to conductor anyway, so a poor connection more heat heypresto FIRE.

Bottom of ccu, no cooker connected but he left a hole after energising the mcb :(

The lean-to freezer area at the side of the flat.

The 1way cu, not very clear but the red tag on mainswitch is shrivled by heat, the cable going from the base & up is directly into the light from the 30amp 3036. Cable from base going down is the socket. The cable entering the top is from the house cu off the 32amp mcb for ringmain (not on the rcd side)

The freezer socket I wondered why the cu was off:O .

You after the inheritance?

I really hope that you report him, it's a shame when the old get more & more like Mr Trebus.

I bet he could tell some stories about the war years.

Sorry but for the security of my own health I'd be turning that one down flat. I don't do much domestic at all but over 20 odd years you see things that cannot fail to boggle the mind at how some people live. It's a living tragedy to me but what can you do? Does she have any relatives? any social input at all?

If the only problem was a few simple faults fixed to render it safe then I'd grit me teeth and get stuck in for half a day albeit with a can of air-freshner in my back pocket and three car fresheners round my neck so that she maybe got the hint. In this case you'd be there for 2 weeks at least and in those conditions no-one could blame you for doing one.
