hi chaps,

Q1. if you were changing a pendant for a new metal fitting in the middle of a lighting circuit would you need to find the end of the circuit to do the R1+R2 for that circuit or would you just ensure earth continuity at the light you were changing.

Q2. also if for example you were changing a consumer unit and you need to get the R1+R2 for the lighting circuit and there was a chandalier as the last light on the circuit would you have to take it down or could this be taken from the .

Q3. also how do you locate the last light on the circuit

cheers

Hi mate,

Ill have a go at helping you here but stand to be corrected so check what others say first.

1) R1+R2 would be taken from the light you replaced. You dont have to do R1+R2 I would personally do R2 with wander lead. You dont have to issue a Minor Works if its a like for like replacement (I would still test tho)

2) You could take it from the switch to avoid taking the chandalier down or do just R2 with wander lead to outer casing if its metal.

3) Test resistance and the highest reading is end of circuit.

Im sure others will come back with better ways so I await being corrected on above.

Cheers

thanks mate

question 2, i thought you were required to do R1+R2 for ZS to ensure disconnection and not just prove earth continuity

If a cu change then I think you would have to check the last point of the circuit because the r1+r2 and zs will be required. If it is totally impossible due to height restrictions etc you could take the readings from the second from last and note it on the certificate. Hope this helps.

I have a set of 5..

Bayonet (BC)

Miniature bayonet (SBC)

Screw (ES)

Miniature screw (SES)

and GU10.

Interesting the logo saying 17th edition complaint???

WTF's that all about then????ROTFWLROTFWLROTFWL

anyway had mine since October 2008..

Bit expensive for what they are..

BUT

they have paid for themselves several times over now on speeding up testing fault investigation etc..

:D :Salute

+1 to Specs

Don't forget you'll need access to a CPC point as well.

Thats where a lightmate AND a metal light fitting really speed things up....

one probe on the metalwork..

t'others in lightmate..

Jobs a goodun! :) Guinness

IIRC MM has a deal on his site for these.

You do R1+R2 to prove continuity of the cpc but the reading you get, you would add this to the Ze to get Zs.
