hi any thoughts on how a motor home picks up an earth when using 230volts supplied from an on board generator for disconnection times

cheers paul

That's an interesting question, talllpaul, even I would like to know the answer..

:)

it doesnt,

like ever other generated earth, its up to the user to provide one.

or........

it could possibly be classed as an earth free zone.

it would entirely depend on how the motorhome was wired TBH.

Hi Tallpaul :)

If the generator is On-board..

and the whole vehicle is on rubber tyres..

There is no path for electric shock back to the mass of earth?

However if you are powering stuff outside the vehicle in contact with earth..

or the generator is standing on the ground outside..

there may be a need for a temporary earth rod connection..

In the Big red book

Section 721 : Caravans & motor homes doesn't appear to make any reference to your example..

Probably because a majority would be using external supply leads..

or 12v & gas powered accessories.?

Section 717 Mobile or Transportable units, give example of functional earth electrodes "if required"

It is my understanding these items are things such as Outside broadcast vans..

which may be powering equipment external to the vehicles.. so earth rods may be needed.

That just my understanding? ?:|

I may be wrong?

But I cant think of any other reasons at the moment! :|

I would have thought the Chassis was earthed
Well Mr Slipshod....

I reckon you avatar is well an truly earthed to that barrow with a very low impedance path! :D :D:D;) :^O

Oh by the way..

what happened to you lunch break on the calendar..

I completely forgot to eat today cuz it wasn't there?

Are you gonna ask Admin?

Or shall I? ]:) ] :) ]:)

Bless.

Can I just say - Before I go.

Yes, a caravan has rubber wheels....

.....But it also has steel levelling Legs too. (stabilising) ;)

That reminds me...

The whole of my trailer is metal construction...

perhaps I need an earth rod to 'TT' it ??

hmmmmm? ?:|

On that bombshell..

Is goodnight! ;)
