hi there, i have a white and black SHD female cat and her white fur has recently taken on a slight brown tinge around her front legs/chest.

anything to worry about?

The light brown staining is actually saliva. She may be grooming those areas more for some reason. Is she treated regularly for fleas? (what did you last use and when?)

How old is she? Will she let you look at her teeth? Bad teeth can make it more likely that the saliva will stain the fur.

(not bad for nearly 1am Christmas day morning!)

She's not been done for fleas for a while, she let's you look at her teeth fine, what would I be looking for?

And she's 9 and as far as we know has no health issues.

Forgot to say many thanks for the quick reply and merry Christmas!

Hopefully others will follow suit, those buttons are getting so dusty and I had to use some three-in-one on them. :D

First thing - treat her for fleas with a decent product (not the nasty stuff from supermarket/pet shops) - something like Frontline/Advocate/Advantix/Stronghold (there are others!).

You want to lift the lip at the side and look at the molar teeth (back ones). You are looking especially for tartar at the gum line or redness (gingivitis).

Any pet licking itself we'd want to rile out fleas first and the best way is to treat for them with an effective product!

Merry Christmas (2 calls so far!) :)

Thanks for the advice, we only ever use frontline spoton to treat for fleas and i'll check her teeth when I get home. If I find tartar or redness should I just take her to her vets?

Thanks again for this :)

Tartar or redness is best checked out. I use Frontline on my own dog!

:D
