Chippy mate has salvaged a pc from work that they were throwing out. All quite legit. Brought it to me to give the Linux treatment for use as a second pc. The reason it doesn't work is somebody has kicked or otherwise stoved in the 15-pin VGA connector on the back! I've tried repairing it with a 99p pcb VGA connector off the bay but no joy. Obviously I can't enter the BIOS anyway without the onboard graphics to even use an expansion card. The mobo is one of these:

Figuring to just buy a working cheapo mobo off the bay and take a punt on it - there appear to be a few for as low as £10-15. Don't want to pay much more. Would rather it came intact so no messing with cpu etc. Would appreciate a kind soul who knows about these things taking a quick look if they would and pointing me in the direction of something suitable!

Cheers!

Stick a pci card in, punt on it may already be set to boot from CD, a lot of BIOS are.
Hmmm.......will give it a go. Don't get how though..........even if it boots from CD isn't the BIOS set by default to the onboard VGA and you need to see the BIOS settings to change them? Just got to hope my soldering efforts on the 15-pin pcb D connector haven't screwed it somehow! All that SMT stuff I can hardly see what I'm doing now!

Had my head in a panel the other day crimping some bootlace ferrules on, with glasses stuck on top of the panel. One of the other late 40's something lads came up and said "At least it's not just me does that!". Not sure who it was..........couldn't see him!

Ive stuck outboard screens on laptops that are ok,

worth a punt at little cost I'd have thought.
Ta, so I have 3 white, PCI slots but theres a few "PCI" types, I always get confused looking at the different types; express, -i etc!

The couple of spare cards I do have are deffo wrong. I think this'll fit?
